Default Thermostat Needed

My truck won't warm up. The upper radiator hose is warm all the way to the radiator before the temperature gauge even starts to move so I need a thermostat. My question is this: Has any aftermarket thermostat functioned like they are supposed to or have they remained 'inferior' to a Cummins stat? I know a lot of aftermarket stats allowed the temperature swings (or at least they used to). Do they still?

When I replaced mine I used one from Napa and it works just as good as the Cummins one did.

Sounds good. I see NAPA has one for $12 and change.

I have a NAPA version as well. Just make sure you get the correct temp for your engine. The guy behind the counter isnt always right. I also remember mine being around $30 but maybe the 12v thermostat is cheaper.

I bought the NAPA thermostat. The only one the show is a 180* and I also got the two rubber seals since it has been many years since they have been replaced. The t'stat, seals, and a quart bottle of Diesel 911 (to get wife's car going) was $36. Now if it would just warm up. The temperature outside as I type this is -10*. It isn't supposed to stay above zero until Wednesday........ I am so tired of this cold weather........

High temp of 50-51*F and raining.

They should have option for 180*F or 190*F If remember correctly. But a Nice rock solid 180*F isn't bad either.

I thought that even though the 180* is OEM for the 12 valve, you could use a 190* or 195* out of a later model.

Later model 12 valve? Never heard of that???? I do know the 24 valve stats won't fit.

Sorry MnTom. Who knows where I read that.....and who knows how long ago either. I only know I've seen somewhere that some one used a hotter thermostat in the sub zero climate. Maybe it was something fab'ed up.

Yea, I know how that goes. I have read many things too and can't seem to remember when or where.... The claim is that it is getting old causes it but I don't remember where I read it....
