Default My Turn

Hey, guys, I am in Standish, Michigan with a truck that won't move. I was pulling out of a rest area and when the transmission shifted into third it went BANG!! No more forward movement. I have no power getting to the driveshaft either forward or reverse so I am thinking I broke the input, intermediate, or output shaft, but don't know yet. I am at a transmission shop, but my nephew is trying to figure out how to get me to my destination (NE Ohio) and fix it there. Once I know what is going on, I may have a plan. But, anybody close to me?

Well, as of now it looks like my nephew figured out a way to come get me and my wife. All he needs to do is install a hitch in one truck and load it on a trailer. Once he gets here we unload his truck and load mine and use his to pull my fiver. At least I think that is the plan........

HOLY CRAP!! Somebody stole it!! LOLLOLOLOL!! Can't check one on a 2WD. I think I stripped the splines on the input shaft, but won't know until I pull the transmission to see. My nephews (two of them) are putting a hitch in a truck and then going to trailer a truck to me, then put my truck on the trailer and use the other truck to tow my trailer. Got a call a few minutes ago and they are trying to get things ready to go. Maybe they will be here by dark!

Well, darn!

I had a ford (gasp) truck strip out the spider gears in the differential, it could be this.

The rear axle is OK. Park is the only thing (well, neutral too) that works. The worst part is there are TWO Fords coming to rescue me.......

Well, Jim, I still don't know what happened (yet). I am still looking at my truck sitting on my nephew's trailer. I am waiting for my brother to get in contact with one guy and I need to contact Georends to see what they say too, even though it is out of warranty. I also have another guy's name and number that is supposed to be a good transmission guy too, so now it is time to be on the phone. Both my nephews are happy because they used their Fords to "rescue a Dodge"! I must admit, I am surprised by my one nephew's truck. It is an '02 with a 7.3 auto 4WD and he got 13.6 mpg pulling my fiver at 65 mph. I get about 13 at 60 mph or less, so he did great for mileage!

I once had an 05 Ferd with the 6.0 and it was a dog in my eyes. Yet the old 7.3's were a bit of a fuel hog and most seemed to never stop running and with a chain big enough, could pull a house down the interstate. The 6.0's ...... dogs. What's the new ones that have now. 6.7's ? Heard their rated pretty good in power. Yet I'd personally stay with the cummins.

Hope it something simple and quick to fix on your truck. Please let us know.

Once I find out what happened I will let you know. The worst part is I am planning to replace my truck next spring, so I don't want to dump a bunch of money into it either.....
