Default 2004 Dodge Durango

I keep getting a P0172 & intermittent P0307 code from the ECM.

Need help diagnosing these.

P0172 - Fuel system too rich, cylinder bank no.1
P0307 - Cylinder 7 misfire

Form what I have been able to dig up there are two plugs per cylinder for a total of 16 plugs. One plug has a wire going to it, and the other one is under the coil pack. I dug up a couple of ways to do it (copy and paste):

Changed my plugs a few days ago, used NGK 5306 (V Power). They're a direct replacement for OEMs. I changed wires to Taylor Thundervolt 50s also.
Helpful tools for changing plugs are:
1/4" air ratchet for changing coil pack bolts.
3/4" extension for 3/8" drive ratchet
2 1/2" extension for 3/8 drive ratchet
Also, use anti-seize on the spark plug threads.
Taking out the drivers side fender well (cover) was a must to reach the back 2 cylinders. I removed my intake and could access the passengers side pretty easy.

For the Plugs...
1. A 3/8" ratchet with a 3" extension and a 3/8 knuckle. Sometimes, I had them connected socket-knuckle-extension...other times I had them connected socket-extension-knuckle.
2. A 5/8" spark plug socket with the rubber insert REMOVED. Sometimes, they come off and stay stuck on the plug...just take it off.
3. A 5" long, 3/4" inside diameter piece of plastic hose that I got from Home Depot. I used this to reach into the spark plug hole and slip it over the plug for pulling it out of the hole. I also used it to start threading the plugs into the hole. This helped to avoid cross-threading.
4. Dielectric grease for the plugs. Use this to help keep moisture out and to make the plug wires easier to remove later.

For the Coils...
1. A 1/4" ratchet with a 3" extension and a 10mm socket. This was used to remove the coils. Sometimes I used the extension, other times I did not.
Sounds almost like a fun project......

I had previously changed out the 8 I could see, along with the spark plug wires, however, I did not know about the plugs under the coil packs......

Yea, that seems to be a common problem. Personally I think it is a poor design. Do you suppose the P0172 is a result of a failing oxygen sensor?

Could be, or it could be from the 1 sparkplug not firing in order to burn off all the fuel.

The only way I could see a rich bank from one cylinder is it is not firing (doubtful with two plugs) and the injector being stuck open. My understanding is that there are actually two coils for each cylinder. One coil is used on two cylinders (one on each bank).

Yes, there are 2 coils per cylinder, One directly above 1 plug, the other on the other side of the engine. Not sure which coil pack is bad yet, if it is even bad.

The second set of plugs that I took out were the original ones, and had a eroded gap of about 0.060.

I would think that if you had a dead coil it would be throwing a code for it. I would change the plugs and go from there.
