The doctor said that there were some broken valve springs. Said this is a common problem. Replacing all the valve springs now.

Really? Weird. How come the compression rose after you squirted oil in the cylinder? I am not disputing the broken springs, but it sounds odd.......

There could have been some carbon build up on the valve stems and the oil lubricated them enough to close all the way,,,

The only problem with that theory (to me anyhow) is that if the valve closed with the oil the carbon would have stayed out of the way for a long enough time to make it run decent.

There were 2 valve springs that were broken, in cylinder #5 & 7, so I had them replace all of them. So should be good for another 100k.

Yea, that would cause a problem, but I still haven't figured out how the compression increased with oil when a valve was open. At least it is running right now!
