Default Transmission Shift Issue

Hey people, my transmission (47RE) started doing something strange. It was shifting real harsh when I put it back in from last year's problems (http://dieseltrucksite.com/showthread.php?t=1043) so I eased off the TV cable and it was shifting great. Now it seems like cold it shifts good, but once it warms up it seems like the lock-up is real harsh. At least I think it is when it goes into lock-up. When towing with O/D locked out when lock-up happens the seat will smack you in the back hard. It can't be good for the drive line like that. Am I thinking correctly that the lock-up solenoid is probably the issue? I am in NE Ohio with my camper and want to make it home to Minnesota........

Have you tried re-grounding the transmission, with soldered connections?

I guess I didn't think of that. I could certainly try that.

I just got off the phone with Dave Goerends of Goerends Transmission. He wants me to get a pressure reading from the transmission and let him know what the pressures are. He said it may be the throttle valve sticking causing the transmission to think the throttle is wide open causing the harsh shifts.

I got the pressure readings that were requested. They were 100psi at idle and 160psi wide open throttle. Dave said the idle pressure was a little high. He said it should be about 80psi idle. I got to looking at the TV lever on the side of the transmission. The return spring was at a bit of an angle and it was not letting the lever go all the way forward (idle position). I re-arranged how the the spring was mounted and re-adjusted the TV cable. I now have 85psi idle and 140psi wide open. The transmission seems to shift much better and lock-up is way smoother. I am going to run it like this for a while and see how it does, but it feels much better!

Hey Tom, glad to hear you made it back to the land of potholes and 10,000 lakes. What stall TC are you running and are you using a goerend VB? I'm getting parts together to do my trans and I think I'll be giving a bunch of money to Goerend. Other than the last couple issues have you been satisfied? I'm just looking for some real world revues.

Yep, I am running some Goerend parts. Far as the stall on my converter, I have no idea what it is. All I know is that it is a triple disc and it holds every bit of power I have thrown at it. The VB is a standard Goerend valve body. The rest of it is pretty much stock and yet I am putting a bit more power than stock through it. The only problem I had with the Goerend built tranny was the input shaft breaking and that was not a fault of the transmission. I am real happy with it.

Well, Rick, I haven't towed with it yet to see what it is like. I am having a slight issue with when you slow down to where it drops into second and you try to get moving under light throttle there is a flare of rpms before it hits third.......
