We have another JD to get running too. I don't remember the model, but the engine was stuck from water being allowed to run into the open exhaust. We drained FIVE GALLONS of clear water out of the oil pan before the lumpy oil started coming out. Now we can get 1/2 of a revolution, but it sounds and seems like there are some stuck valves.

We filled the crank case with fuel to help soak some lube into it. I have no idea how long this tractor sat. All I know is it is "fairly" easy to move the crankshaft, but at each end of the 1/2 revolution something is stopping the movement with an audible 'thunk' near the top of the pistons, therefore leading us to believe there are stuck valves.

does this engine have the side valve covers you can pull off and see if anything is stuck?

Nope. This one is overhead valves so we need to get it in the shop (maybe next week?) and pull the top sheet metal so we can get to the valve cover. Hopefully we won't be needing a head, but that remains to be seen.

Well, the 6430 should be home as of yesterday. I don't have all the particulars yet, but I do know that one injector was bad and that all four were replaced. I am wondering if the HPFP was the problem. I should find out next week.

Well, the 6430 finally made it home Friday. Turns out the valve/solenoid on the HPFP I thought may have been the problem was, along with two injectors. The valve/solenoid wasn't commanding the computer to build rail pressure. For parts I was told the injectors (4) were $400 each and the valve/solenoid was about $500. There was also some work done to the seat,so I am guessing the bill will be in the $3000 range.
