The regular cab would be a deal breaker and not even be considered if I were in your position. Even now I won't have a regular cab with just me, the wife, and the dog. I will keep my eyes open for you. What is your budget and how far will you travel?

Probably going Sunday to pick up a 97 SLT V10 w/47RE
It's not a show truck, by any stretch, but it is cheap.. Why cheap? Cuz'n it'll need some wrench time.. But I'm picking it up for under a grand.. 4WD, runs decent, shifts fine, blah blah.. It's alot like me.. dented, rusty, and has an attitude.

Right there is a comment that justify a perfect project truck and well worth the time and money.

1. Something in the range of what you wanted,
2, Some tool time to get it to what you want

and the most important item,

3. Cheap to start you off to hopefully and affordable finish truck.

I hope this one doesn't have transmission issues....... Feel free to post any info or questions about this truck. We would be happy to 'assist' with anything we can!

Well, I picked the truck up yesterday afternoon. Was a 5hr round trip. It's rough, but I wasn't looking for a pageant truck, I was looking for an ugly donkey to work.. I found exactly that LOL.

Trouble is, it's pushing coolant out the left side pretty heavily; most likely a cracked head. It's ok, though, as I picked the truck up for $800. 4wd works, tires are decent, rust in rockers, dents overall, but it is an SLT Laramie, so it's got all the buttons. Also, a friend has a 24V Cummins swap he want's $1800 for, if it comes down to that. I'd most likely hand a p-pump on it, should I go that route. But the v10 heads are only $300. Truck starts/runs/drives, so...

Anyone looking for a 2001 VW Jetta TDi 5 speed, loaded w/leather, 40-50mpg? I'm selling that, now.

Overall it seems like a decent deal. How difficult would changing heads actually be? I don't know how much crap is under the hood on one of those, that's why I am asking. I am more used to the 'old' cars and trucks where you could pull a valve cover in less that 15 minutes.....
