Default Broke it...

Today, I broke the drivers side door handle trying to pull it open after is froze last night...:t az::t az:

I don't know if this will help in your area, but this is what I do mid Oct every year. I buy a spray can of silicone spray and give it good squirt in the key holes, where the handles slide into the door and all hinges. Then after it had a little bit of time to dissipate the spray, I give it a go again. It doesn't get as cold here as in yur area. But we do get cold spells, like the -12 last year, and never had a issue with handles or hinges.

I hate it when it is the driver side ... the most used door.

The door was frozen shut, I could not open up the door. Pulled on it until it broke.

That is no fun. Something you can do that will help in the future is to smear a light coating of Vaseline or something similar on the rubber gasket for the doors. I am sure by now you got into your truck. When you pull the panel off be careful because the panel can break where the christmas trees go. Once you get it apart you will know what I mean. Don't forget the two screws in the armrest!

I'm sorry, it was the seal that was frozen to the door panel. I thought it was the mechanism frozen. I always use a silicone base treatment on the seals and make sure the inner door surface is cleaned once oer month minimum. One would figure the seal would tear before the handle broke.

Well, it was snowing at the time I closed it last.

I changed it out in about 1 hour, I even had bought the tools necessary 3 years ago.

It was snowing and I had just come back in from being called in, so the truck was warm inside and melted the snow, thus freezing shut.

FWIW, i wouldn't use Vaseline. Its petroleum based and will eventually turn the seal to a gooey mush. If you wanna see what i mean, put some on somebody's windshield wiper blades one time. LOL
Silicone spray is what i use.
