So I FINALLY got a chance to piddle with the truck. I used jumpers, as instructed, to trigger the alternator, and it DOES charge. No 12v present on the OE harness, that I could measure. Checked harness for any breaks/disconnects, but saw none..

Have you checked for AC voltage? I am still not convinced the voltage regulation circuit has failed. If there is too much AC getting into the wiring then all sorts of goofy things happen. Use a DVM and set the meter to AC. Put the red wire from the meter to the B+ terminal on the alternator and the black on the alternator housing. Don't use the battery terminal due to the battery absorbing (for lack of a better term) some of the AC wave. Have someone run the engine from idle to wide open watching the meter. If you see anything more than 250mV then I would look for another alternator. It is possible to even get a bad one out of the box. The other fix would be to install an external regulator on the truck, but I would do that after all other things have not worked.

so, leave alt connected as intended, set DVOM to "AC", red wire to bat+ lug of alternator, and ground to alt chassis, and watch for AC > 250mV throughout the rpm sweep?

Yessir! That's it in a nut shell! I read where one person over on TDR had about the same problem, took the alternator to two places where they called it good. He took it to NAPA since they had the "latest and greatest" tester and said it failed the 'ripple test' which is the AC test. Replaced the alternator and it charged just fine.

so I didn't have any real measurable AC. Contemplating throwing an external regulator on the truck and letting it go home. I hate to do it that way, but ..

I have a dumb question. Have you pulled the alternator and had it tested?

Nope, but if i jump the harness, it charges.. no voltage signal in the trucks alt plug..

Sent using Sprint's invisible microwaves..

Not stupid, as sometimes I overlook simple stuff, but I did check it.
