While driving today, I used cruise control and there was no surging noted.

Ok so with cruise it was fine...

Can you get a hold of a Live Data tool and watch your APPS sensor signal? It might be get flaky in one spot where the carbon track is wore down some. So on the data tool you might see wild changes in the TPS signal.

Time for a ScanGauge2 :cool: Got one as per MoparMan's recommendation in the past and love it for diagnostics.

Scangauge II is helpful in spotting problems...

But I'll admit SGII isn't prefect. The display is slow and you might miss sudden changes. So sometimes you still got to break out with the big gun like Snap on or simular...

Another thought you could probe the signal lead in the APPS plug with a DVM and work the throttle over the span and see if it rises smoothly. Not sudden changes up or down.

Is it possible the transmission was dropping in & out of lockup?
That is about the rpm range that it would be.

I have a manual transmission, yet if I had a auto trans, that would be another thing to look at.

Driver side battery ground (ECM and APPS ground)
Do a voltage drop test on the ground leads.
Check you APPS signal for wild changes using a live data tool of some sort.
Double check your error code with a scan tool.

Beyond that I would replace and try the Timbo APPS...

Beyond that I'm thinking more injection pump getting flaky...

P0500 is Vehicle Speed Sensor A
P0602 is Powertrain Control Module Programming Error
