Default Getting the most from your service brakes and exhaust brake

As most of you know I've just barely changed out my brake pads on my truck for the first time. I finally replaced my factory Mopar pads at 187K miles. Now a lot of you where shocked at the distance I got from my stock brakes. Well here is a short video of how I come to stops using the exhaust brake mostly. I used sub titles in the video to show what function is occuring.


Ok... Here is another video of traveling down Goose Creek grade. Its a 7% grade with tight corners marked for 25 MPH. I travel up and down this grade all the time and never have to use the service brakes on the way down.

so, anytime you let off the skinny petal the exhaust brake kicks on?
is this only for a stick? (no auto trans?)

You can put an exhaust brake on an auto. You just need a controller of some sort to keep the transmission locked so you can get the full effect of the brake. You can also just install a lock up switch to do the same thing.

But make sure your trans is built up a bit too. The auto trans is the weakest trans of all of them. So forcing the trans to do something is not design to do is going to add stress to it.
