Default Wild hair

I have a jeep liberty with 2.8 crd with a 5speed auto. My son wrecked the jeep and i kept it and built a 14" lift, dana 60 rear, dana 44 front, 35" tires.
It was a major undertaking since the liberty had ifs and a unibody. Reinforced frame for coilsprings and brackets built for front 3 link suspension and 4link triangulated rear. Had to install a ford gearbox for crossover steering link, installed 4.88 front and rear with ARB lockers front and rear. Got the body work finished, and painted, and finally road worthy amd inspected and insured.
Drove it a while and decided I dont like it.
So now i am thinking of stripping down the liberty and combinig parts wit a 1977.5 f250 4wd. The crd is 165 horse and i think 295 torque, with the 4.88 gears in the liberty it takes off and runs at highway speeds very well. Weight difference from the ford to the jeep is not much. The liberty is very heavy close to 5500, the f250 is a little more.
I havent torn in yet, but i have 3 donor trucks and a donor jeep ready.
My sons packed up quickly and went off to school and said, see ya dad, good luck.
Purchased the tech manual for the liberty and of the 6000 pages 4500 of them are for electronics and wiring. That scared me.
I'llkeep thinking about it.

The running gear in the jeep liberty right know is from a 78 f250 4wd.
Basically putting the 2.8 crd and drivetrain in a f250.
I have always loved the 77 -79 ford 4wd. I think with an efficient diesel engine i can get 18-21 mpg. I think their is enough hp and torque to pull it.

Thanks!

I backed off on the idea of transplanting the 2.8 crd. I' m not to concerned about the power, but all the electronics. So for now I'll keep playingwith it.
MoparMan, I'm invious of where you live, It would be heaven to me, to have all that terrain in the backyard!!

You have my attention:wowee:

Did you actually wheel it or just used it as a street cruiser? I would imagine dropping the cash for ARBs and such you actually wheeled it. Where are those pictures?

For the record. I absolutely HATE the Jeep Liberty because its the vehicle that killed off my beloved XJ. But I must admit that a First Gen Libby on straight axles does get my attention.

Any uniframe stiffeners?

I just reread your post. You dont like it eh? Why not?

Thanks

My son drove the liberty to high school, he had about 10 mile commute to school. One morning in a heavy rain, he hit a deep puddle of water dong about 65, it hydroplained hit the ditch flipped and rolled. Total loss said the insurance, so the project began.
Here is a link to the lost jeep forum, i detailed alot of the project there.

Yes i did stiffen the frame, the liberty is quite a bit heavie than the XJ, it was 4400 lbs before i added all the crap on it. I bet its close to5000 lbs by now. Lol.

I am off on my alignment and need to spend some time and get it dialed in.
I've been tweeking on it a little bit and is getting better.
The other minor complaint i have is , i have to jump in the cab now as opposed to sliding down in the cab, the 16" of lift, causes me to bump my head and bust my shin when i jump in. But thats is minor, i can slowly build calases.
