Default 3/4 ton Dually

I have been pondering about making my Dodge Cummins truck into a dually. Money wise, it isn't something I'll be able to accomplish now, but I wanted to start the research on it anyway. Personally, I think the Quad Cab Short Bed (QCSB) looks great as a dually using mega dually fenders. I know this mod is not going to make my truck a true one ton, but should offer more stability when towing and the cool factor.

I have a 2008 6.7 as most know. I have been trolling for sale ads for some time. I figure doing this swap, would be making my current truck a 'new' truck again.

Comparing my 2500 to a 3500 single rear truck, how much different are the frames, beef wise? Or are they the same frames but the one tons just use heavier suspension? My thoughts are just using the dually axles but keep my OE 3/4 ton suspension. Probably upgrade the front coils so the truck sits level with 'spacers' and use my stock leafs with a aftermarket bag system. Also as most know I'm a jeep nut. I can find any sort of part I need for a jeep, used, cheap, new, etc but I cannot find anything I'm looking for pertaining to my truck.. (axles)

Thoughts? Encouragement? Tell me I'm nuts?

Check out this months diesel power, there is a entry in the power challenge that is my future goal. It's actually that truck, I seen it awhile ago, that got me thinking about it.

You? Nuts?? No, to tell you the truth you aren't nuts. Do you happen to know of anyone with a dually? If you do you can experiment a little. You could try the wheels on yours and find you may not need to change axles. As long as the wheels and tires clear the suspension you won't need to change much. If I recall, the dually axle is slightly narrower than the srw axle (or is it the other way around?). From what I understand, the frames are the same and just the suspension is the only thing different. Unless you plan on really working your truck super hard the frame will do just fine (after all, it is holding up well now). The dually fenders are not cheap either..... LOOK HERE for some fenders that fit.

Would dually hubs go on my front axle?

I am not sure if the front hubs will or not. Anyone else know if they will?

I have seen dually swapped Ford Super Dutys where they did not do anything with the front axle but swapped in a rear axle. Doesn't look right.

Well I know that you can convert a dually to a single rear wheel. So why couldn't you reverse it?

Here is a older write up...

So it looks like a set of dually wheels with spacers for the front, and mega cab dually rear fenders.

Almost seems too simple to me. Anybody know where to get the correct parts for the front?

I do know of a couple of guys that one had a dually and the other had an SRW. They decided to swap parts and from what I understand they swapped rear ends (to keep the wheels looking right on the SRW) and the box. I will see if I can find out about the front hubs.

Yep. Drew and Les did the swap, but Drew live in the Eau Clair area last I heard.
