I don't know how big the tank is I have, but it fills up the are from the wheel well to the front of the box quite well! I am still tweaking the system some yet (reducing the amount of propane injected) and think I have it about where I want it. It gets kind of hard to drive with a little too much propane. You can certainly feel when it comes on! So far I have about 125 miles on and the fuel gauge dropped about a needles width. Time will tell!!

Well, I think I need to figure out how much the tank holds. I ran out of propane at about 1/2 tank, so my figures won't accurately reflect the real cost. Maybe I should cut the propane back just a bit more. I won't be able to get more propane until Tuesday since I will be working out of town on Monday.

Can you give the rough dimensions of your tank. That way I can help you figure out how big it is.

Hopefully I can get the dimensions of the tank tomorrow. It probably isn't much more than about 8 or 10 gallons.......

dripley, call around and see if you can purchase propane as a motor fuel and get price quotes.

Tom, if your tank is 8 - 10 gallons, and you are using it 1:1 with diesel, then you need to turn it down a bit. Also, since you have a gauge on the tank, when you fill it up at the propane station, you should be able to get an exact amount for capacity.

I have been thinking about turning it down. So far according to the fuel gauge there isn't much of a difference, but fuel gauges are notoriously inaccurate. Once I fill the fuel back up then I will have a bit more of an idea how it will do.

Well, I filled up the fuel tank but not the propane tank today. I have never gone as far as I did this tank full. I had 599 miles on and the fuel gauge was about a needle's width below the 1/4 tank mark. The pump that I used to fill up was the same pump I used last time, BUT, the pump was super slow today. The truck took 28.7 gallons to fill the tank, however, since the pump was so slow it filled the tank to a higher level than it normally does. The fuel gauge is about two needle's width above full (I have never seen it like that). It only comes out to about 20.8 mpg, but with the mileage and the tank being more full than usual I can't say what the fuel mileage is, but like I said, I have never gone that far on 3/4 tank of fuel so the propane is helping. I hope to get the propane tank filled tomorrow then I will know the size of my tank.

I finally filled my propane tank. It holds................Ready for it?? about twelve gallons. I put 12.3 gallons in it. It cost me $42.47!! $3.059 for the propane, $.183 Federal tax, and $.2105 State tax for a total of $3.45 per gallon. Damned expensive considering that home heating propane (the EXACT SAME THING) is going for $2.259 a gallon at the same place! I almost feel a little sore after that.....

Don't feel bad...... My 20 pound tank (for my grill) cost $4.20 PER GALLON!! This is at a propane supplier not a gas station!
