So taking into account the price difference in fuel the Hemi wins.
We usually take both pickups camping, the cummins with the pontoon and the Hemi with the camper and they do the same mileage, the pontoon is a bit lighter but pulls like a brick with the wind drag. But when I pull the camper with the cummins I still only get about 12-13 with smarty JR set on level 3. So there is no advantage to the cummins for what I am towing except for a lighter wallet.
Rolling down the road no load ideal driving conditions with cruise set at 60-65 both pull 19-20 mpg. Hemi still wins considering the 30-40 cent difference in fuel.

If I was towing any heavier it would even out at best fuel price wise knowing the Hemi would drop off quickly from this point.

Awesome thread..

Sorry to drag up an old one, but stodg and I were actually discussing this very thing tonight, and I asked him to point me to the thread.

Thanks for sharing..

Tom, how's it doing now? Notice any difference with the winter blend?

I have not been getting that great of mileage this winter mainly due to not driving very far to work. It is only 8 miles so I would start the truck and let it run for a bit to try to warm it up. So far judging fro the fuel guage it appears to be about 20 mpg. I decided to drive my Jeep to work for a while now that it is colder.

Here is an update! I just fueled up today with 456.6 miles on. I used 17.3 gallons of fuel and about 6 gallons of propane. Of the 456 miles I had about 1/3 of them empty with the cruise set at 74mph, 1/3 empty with the cruise set at 60mph, and 1/3 towing my 16' boat at 60mph. The mileage comes out to 26.39mpg fuel, and adding in the 6 gallons of propane it comes out to 19.59mpg. I sure like those numbers!!

Those are GREAT numbers! How does it feel to be getting 20 MPG's in an 8000 lb truck?
