Default Aw Crap.......

Well, when I get home this weekend I need to pull the starter on my Dodge. It is making what I call a crying sound when I try to start my truck. Today, I had to hit the key four times before it would turn over. Even then it wasn't like normal, it turned over kind of slow. A few years ago I put Larry B's contacts in so I suppose it may be time again....... I guess when I pull it apart I will find out what is wrong, but it acts exactly like what it did before the contacts were replaced.

Did you eat the brushes out of the starter? If you have a failed brush you'll be short 1/2 a starter at that rate.

You can get full rebuilds...

Tom, ditto on MM's post. Just put in the whole kit in the pic. I had a (1) bad brush & the contact pitted halfway gone, SO the Larry B's Starter Rebuild kit for me. FYI on the pic, the brush wire end with the c-clip on it that mounts/Solders to the copper ring in the starter. I had to put a wire brush on a drill to clean that dude good enough for solder to flow. PITA. no problems on the MT trip..

Funny..... Since I posted it has been working just like it is supposed to! I am still going to pull it to see what is going on. I am suspecting brushes though.......

Well, I should tell you what I did...... I was able to get a new starter for a real reasonable price through my possible future son in law. $159 exchange with a lifetime warranty so you know what I did. Kind of a good thing too since I found the two transmission lines rubbed together and wore a hole in one So I had to fix them too....
