Default Transmission Issue

Hey guys, last week I drove my truck and everything worked perfect. Today I needed to use it and when I first took off the transmission would not shift. All I had was first gear. I have had problems with it not shifting before and it was the connector for speed sensor on the side of the transmission. Everything I did didn't seem to help, then all the sudden it worked. When I got to city driving again it was downshifting and upshifting so fast it was like a flasher was on the circuit. I got to where I was going and went to leave with the same thing all over again. I was going to come home with it in first gear, but it got into second then it started to try to upshift many many times and I looked at the trans temp guage and it was WAY up! I put it in second manually and it cooled down immediately, but started shifting normally again. Any ideas???

edit:You don't suppose the ASD solenoid has anything to do with it?????
