2 weeks ago I noticed my temp appeared to be going screwy so I pulled it and went the old boiling water test. It needed to be changed. 2 years old and from NAPA. Never had issues before from their parts.

Found out O'Reilly sold a Murray thermostat that is 'stainless steel and copper'. Not sure what the others are, but I thought SS / copper should last longer. The one for my truck was about $25 and had the gasket. So far it's good. Just thought I mention it.

I go the NAPA stat for $12 and the seals for another $10 for a total of about $22 plus this stat is SS and brass made by Stant so hopefully it is a decent one. Best of all it says it was made in the USA!

I agree with you, I like the Manufactured in the USA. But companies like Stant manufactures in the USA, Mexico, Europe and Asia. Just checked their webpage. It's hard to find Made in the USA now days.

But when the part goes bad in 2 years when it should have lasted well longer, instead of buying the same part from the same manufacture, I have to look else where. I don't want to do this every 2 years. AND ~ USA made is preferred.

I agree that two years isn't very good, but the box and stat both say "Made In USA" on them so hopefully it will last!

I've got to the point to not even think about it. When I do a coolant flush and fill I change thermostat right then and there and move on. 1-2 years not a problem.

I agree Mike, I like to do it well before it's so call due to change. But I was going to change it out this 'summer', and did not plan on it for in the winter months.

But I guess it was way warmer here than when Tom had to do it.

Still has to do it. I needed the weather to cooperate and it is supposed to be about 45* so I figured that will be the right time! I haven't run my truck since I posted about the t'stat.......

Got my t'stat installed. Now it fluctuates like it used to. Oh well, now I can get heat out of my truck again!

I can't tell you exact temps, but my gauge is a bit off (I tried another sending unit when I broke this one and it was worse so I fixed what I had). It goes up to almost the center mark and then drops all the way down to the first line. I do know I have way better heat now so it must have helped some.
