I would venture to say that it is not a real design decision for the Dodge application. For what the engine was designed and made for it would have an outlet on the back of the block so there would be extra flow. I am going to have to really look into whether putting a by-pass in is worth anything or not. Once it finally warms up here (supposed to be -4* Sat. night) I will look at my truck to see if it will even fit.

Thermostats are like engine oil. Seems like everyone has a pick between Cummins of aftermarket. I want to bench test hotter thermostat next fall I want to try a 200*F thermostat and see what happens as far as efficiency.

The 12 valves don't have many temperatures to pick from. Everything I can find is a 180*.

Every one I had available when I needed mine was 180*. I would kind of like to have a 190* though.

Try that 440 thermostat. What was it?.....195* Drill a couple 1/8" holes in the flange and see if it gives you what you want.

Since I have the built in bypass I shouldn't have to drill the holes, should I? Or is would that allow enough to flow by the element and possibly slow down the temp swings??? HHHmmm........
